 Dear fellow Nepalis living abroad,

On May 1, 2011, a group of concerned citizens decided to act to try and put an end to the sorry state of affairs of our country. With the help of social networking platforms, they were able to mobilise support of people from all walks of life – young college students, professionals, businessmen etc. A small, brief gathering at the Mandala on 7th May 2011 was followed through with larger ones outside the BICC Hall on 14th May and Khula Manch on 21st May. Thereafter, several other activities have been conducted at prominent public places. It has been ensured in all the gatherings and demonstrations that general public are not inconvenienced in any way while the events are happening, i.e., traffic jam etc.

The positive energy and serious concern for the country expressed by the people - who attended these gatherings and those engaged in deep discussions inside & outside the cyberspace - have encouraged this group (“Nepal Unites” www.facebook.com/nepalunites) to build a momentum and to create serious pressure on people responsible for running our country. This group is also working closely with other groups (“Come On Youth Stand Up”, “DIE Nepal Bandh DIE” etc.) with similar objectives. These are all informal groups, not organisations, with activities carried out purely on voluntary / pro bono basis. The group has a support base in London. It would be great if Nepalis living abroad and join the movement in facebook via the link provided above.

This movement has no political affiliation whatsoever and truly echoes the frustrations of ordinary Nepalis:  We have become a country of thugs; incompetence and impunity are the order of the day. What we need is governance, accountability and delivery. Unfortunately all state machineries have failed us and it appears that we now have nowhere to turn to… except ourselves. It’s high time for all of us to stand up and speak up. Enough is enough and we need to act.

To get to the ultimate goal of governance, accountability and delivery, this group is currently pressing for drafting of the constitution at the soonest. The constitution surely will not solve our problems until people running the country become accountable; but the constitution is the point where other pieces can be drawn from. Also, the constitution is being used as an excuse to take the country hostage. It is necessary to create enough pressure to make them realize that they cannot take us for a ride forever.

On the other hand, we the citizens must also become responsible. We must move away from the national pastime of complaining about the state of the country but doing nothing about it. Being responsible means each one of us doing everything positive, whatever we can, to make Nepal a livable country.

These are issues directly related to health of the economy and our everyday lives.  Solidarity shown by citizens last year for the cause of tourism year was exemplary; it shows that we are capable of standing up for a worthy cause. At this point in time, I can’t think of a more worthy cause than getting our nation back on track. Just like what we all did for tourism last year, this is a request to all concerned citizens of Nepal to be a part of this campaign or start a campaign of your own to build a prosperous Nepal, an accountable and responsible Nepal.

My Nepal My Responsibility (Mero Nepal Merai Dayitwa) is the slogan we need to carry in our hearts and minds.

Thank you.

for the people of Nepal

      Great Job.
We support for the Good cause.

NO political affiliation, that's what we need for the peace, prosperity and nation building.

We need to raise a flag on people misusing the power.

         The recent example.
Manrup Shahi appointed NAC chairman  source www.Nepalnews.com and other Nepali newspapers.
"...The newly appointed chairman, Shahi, is a UCPN (Maoist) cadre from Kalikot district, the home district of minister Bishwakarma. He does not have any experience in management and aviation. Shahi's educational qualification is not clear.

Shahi had been appointed treasurer of Social Welfare Council (SWC) when Bishwakarma was the social welfare minister four years ago..."

Let's monitor Mr. Shahi progress as a NAC chairman.
the best one would be to broadcast in News and media, if there are any interested qualified candidate for this Position.
Here is what we see the main responsibility for the NAC chairman.
a. Connect Nepal with USA with a Direct Flight atleast once a week. [The flight time is only 15 hrs from US east coast NY/Chicago OR west coast San Francisco]. This will be a great revenue generating point for NAC, affordable and convenience for Nepali diasporo in North America as well as more influx of Tourists, Investors and also promotes Medical Tourisms.
b. Have a Online complaint box to gather review and address them in weekly/montly meeting.
c. Online booking feature in Nepal Airlines website http://www.nepalairlines.com.np
d. Document, track, maintain all the parts, equipments and resources of NAC.
e. Curb corruption in the organization.
f. Review the existing flight and increase the frequency of flights domestic and international.
    Please add more.

Nepal Unites, Friends,
Let's keep this in our roadmap.

---Best Wishes.

Agree with Nepalz_com.

Whenever funds are misappropriated or cases of bribery comes up, or hooliganism is evident, these things need to be voiced up in your facebook postings. We need to expose these culprits more. Just a candlelight solidarity get-together OR telling CA members to draft a constitue faster isn't enough. We will be with you.
