Hi, I am travelling DFW/EWR (New Jersey) / KTM. Continental Airlines till Delhi, and Jet airways from Delhi to KTM. I will have my baggage checked through DFW to DEL all the way, but I will be claiming (from Continental airlines) at the DELHI airport and after spending hours at the airport, while leaving for DEL - KTM sector, I will be checking in all my luggages once again (with another carrier - Jet Arilines). The question is: Will I be checking my luggage out with the Delhi Custom too or not? In other words, Does the Delhi Custom come in between the two sectors EWR/DEL (with Continental) and DEL/KTM (with JET) or it is outside of the lobby, say somewhere before the exit but after coming out of the Transit area? My best guess is (and hope) I will be there in the same terminal (#2) without having going through the Indian Custom. Do you happen to know anything about being the Custom in between (even for passangers in the transit) or outside of the transit (, which would be only for the travellers who want to exit the ariport itself)? Some of you may have gone through the same path. Your insight would be highly appreciated. Thank you

I haven't gone through this route but I know one thing, you will get only 20Kg so becareful of your weight. If it is over weight, you will have to pay for it. To avoid the Indian hassels I flew direct to Nepal...but paid a price for it. Other than the weight I dont think it will be that bad. Good Luck -Fly

I dont know all the details about your travel but I will tell you what I had to do when I flew via Delhi. While on my way to Ktm, I stopped by delhi for two days so I checked out my bags in Delhi...through the customs. It is just one form, very short and you dont have to pay anything if you are not carrying lots of electronics and precious metals. Then I had to check in everything when I eventually flew to Nepal. While coming back, I didnt get out of the airport in Delhi as my stopover was very short. So I checked in my bag in Ktm and collected it here in US....there was no hassle of customs in Delhi at all as the luggage was put on your connecting plane. The officials in Delhi customs will however, come to you after your luggage has been put on the right plane just to make sure that there is no missing luggage. Its really not a big deal to go through Delhi..the tickets are much cheaper and I think people just make it look like a bigger hassel. Have a safe trip!

IGI ( indira gandhi intnl) has 2 terminals-- terminal 1 is for domestic, terminal 2 for international ( includes flights to Saarc countries, I think)--- If you are coming from the US, you will have to leave airport 2 and go to airport 1, which is 7 kms away-- you should find plenty of transportation, and there is a coach service for IC 10 Rs that leaves every 15 mins. The transit sucks if you are going to spend the nite. usually flights from the US arrive late and you either have to go to the city and spend the nite in a hotel, or loiter in the transit lounge. My advice, go online to travelocity or Orbitz, and you will find a cheap decent lodging close to the airport ( found one for 30/nite- 3 star hotel) with luggage, you should have no problems- ditto for immigration also- except you will have to claim it and check it back in the next day.

Well My comment is not helpful to you but just wanted to share a small experience in this topic: I flew through Delhi once and recorded that The staffs were 100 times more corrupt then in the Nepali airport, Compare to India Nepal was more civilized and helpful and nice and was very impressed that the staffs at least not as bad as in India. Perhaps it is also because I myself am Nepali. And also that India is bigger then Nepal. So since my bad experince in Indian airport, I never travel through India.

You wil hve to pass thru the red channel or the green channel anyway. Coz the departure is on the upper floor and u have to cross the main street, as far as i Know and fyi, dont drink the apple juice on Jet Airways. It smells like DDT. Ask for the plain old beer. and oh, the departure lounge will cost u Irs.30 if u are going their 6 hours in advance of yr flight. but its worth it may god speed you

I have very unexpected experience about staffs at Delhi airport...In fact they went out of their way to help me locate my misplaced luggage...They searched for it along with female officer as an escourt (which was highly unusual) found it in the end with everything intact. I was the among the last passengers to board the aircraft due to the the whole affair of misplaced luggage. Advice: Dont act arrogantly or get angry for some minute inconviniences. If you do, you are looking for trouble that you would not have gotten in the first place.

dreamer is right...one of my friends who recently went home for Dashain via Delhi confirmed that you do not have to even leave the terminal...also mentioned he had no problems whatsoever in Delhi...and he saved a bundle too.. his total cost to delhi (roundtrip ticket bought at travelocity) was 1020, and he spent an additional 120 for the roundtrip to ktm-- I think he probably saved about 300.00
