I have been having an unsual problem with my keyboard. I am using Windows XP. When I try to type some keys like underscore (_), some numbers like 7,9; the shortcut keys in MS word and even on internet gets acrivated. For example, “H” appreads over home, “N” appreads over Inser, “P” appreas over “Page Layout” and so. To get rid of it, I have to click on “Windows” shortkey on the key. But again same thing appreas as I type the above keys. This is so troublesome specially when I have to work with Excel and have to type lots of numbers.
I tried to search a lot on internet to fix this problem but could not manage to fix it as of now. Can someone suggest what might be the problem and how to fix it?
For your reference, I am also including the snapshot of the shortcuts getting activated automatically.
You are pressing Shift key 5 times, which activates your shortcut keys. FIX:: Go to control panel (classic view is easier) and click accessibility options under keyboard tab there is setting for Sticky Keys, click on settings and UNCHECK the box that says "Use shortcut" click OK to save and exit. Happy Computing!!!!
No bro, I am not pressing ALT key at all. When I try to type some keys like underscore (_) - by pressing Shift and -, some numbers like 7,9; the shortcut keys in MS word and even on internet gets activated. The only way to get rid of it to click on “Windows” shortkey on the key, which opens the "START" menu. Then I have to press ESC and it becomes normal. But immediately as I press above keys, same problem.
Try pressing Fn key ( between ctrl and windows key on left side of your keyboard) and screen lock key up right on keyboard both at same time for 3 secs . if it doesnt work try fn key and break key same time . It will work
I tried pressing Fn key and screen lock but it didn't work. When you say "Break", do you mean "Pause break" key. To make it more clear, I have taken picture of the keyboard and attaching here. And this is Acer laptop, just wondering if something is wrong with this model.
Have you ever spilled tea/water or some kind of fluid over your keyboard. If yes these things happen and you need to change your keyboard. Does this typing abnormality happens only in excel and internet explorer or for all applications?
No I have never spilled anything on it. Funny thing is it worked fine for 1 month in between and again same problem came. I just wonder if something is wrong with the registry. And also if I connect external keyboard, external one works fine.
Since external keyboard is working fine, it looks like there's no problem in system software as well as registry. I think problem lies with the keyboard cirucuitry. If you have warranty left on your laptop then you can call acer's customer service and explain your problem they are obliged to change your keyboard for free. Few months back, I had a problem with my hp laptop keyboard. Two of the keys were popped out then I called HP's customer service and got it replaced. They even sent me packaging material and everything was free and it took only 5 days altogether (they sent me packaging material with return stamp, I sent them my laptop and they repaired it and sent me back).
