Anyone know how early can Nepalese passport be renewed before expiry date? Current passport expires June 2026. I was wondering if it can be renewed if it has more than 12 months left? Anyone here renew with more than 12 months left?

Passports need to be renewed before the expiry date; No they will not renew it if you have more than 6 months' validity! Why do you want to renew it when you have a year and a half left before it expires?? Just sounds stupid! :)

It would be easy to travel to DC and renew it while I still have my valid TPS document and EAD. After May 2025, you can fly only using real ID. If I submit my current passport to the embassy later, I won't have any form of real ID to use to fly, as we cannot use our DL anymore. So just wanted to have the new passport before that.

I recently renewed my passport at the NY Consulate; I had 8 months validity; I had to make a special request to have it renewed as they insisted that they wouldn't accept the renewal application with more than 6 validity. If you have a year and a half validity, I don't think they will make the exception! Doesn't hurt to ask - though you need to be really lucky to have your call answered! :)

@fakir what did you do take an appointment earlier or get your passport renewed when it had more than than 6 months of validity?

I sent an e-mail to the NY Nepal Consulate (as they rarely answer phone calls) and asked them the question whether they would accept the renewal with 8 months PP validity. They responded with a no initially and after providing them with the convincing argument that I needed to travel on a very important assignment just around the time that my passport's expiry dates, they accepted my argument and asked me to submit the application online. At the time the appointment dates were not open on their online application site. I asked them again as to when the dates would be open and a few days later I received a response saying that the appointments were open for that month and was able to make an appointment and submitted my application. Hope this is helpful.
