I have heard this rumor from few people that inorder to obtain a green card from marriage, the couple need to have kids together. how true is this? If yes, does this apply for all the states..

You don;t have to have kids in order to get a green card.

I think you can adopt one.

it sure is not true that you have to have a kid together, however the green card processing gets smoother if you have one..and have fun...

U don't need to have kids to get the GC. Its upto u. If u want kid than u can make but don't be in trouble. U can have fun without kids. Don't trust to Bideshi Ladki ok. They loves child support money.

Seriously, you don't need kids to get GC thru marriage. You just need your marriage certificate and a spouse. You don't need kids to prove your marriage. Here in America, people can have kids without marrage.

zer0: you don't have to have a kid to get a GC by marrying (a US citizen)...... all you need to do is
- get married and have a marriage certificate (you even don't need to have a ceremony, you can go to court and get married)
-live together for at least one year
-file your taxes as a couple (the couple must have at least 12K income together.... sajha experts correct me if I'm wrong), your spouse must have a steady job
-maintain your status
-your spouse should file a petition for permanent residency
-if you are a student, DSO of your school can help, you don't have to hire a lawyer

You just need to prove that you are legally married to an individual who is a US citizen or who is being granted a green card to get a green card. They will ask you to provide evidences to prove that your marriage is bonafide. The following documents will be helpful for that: evidence of joint residence, joint health insurance, joint ownership of a property, joint bank account, joint tax return and parenting a child together. Not all the evidences listed above are required. Having a kid together is one of the evidence that will help you prove your mariage is bonafide. It does not mean that you can not prove a bonafide marriage without having a kid together.
