Sounds awakrd in nepal. But I think legalizing it solvs a lot of problems like unwanted marriage, repression from state, and more importantly a reliable source of national income. we don't know the underground economy of sex trade in nepal.

Hancyguy, to answer your question regarding the underground sex trade in Nepal, here is the paragraph I found from this article. To read the whole article please click this link target=_blank>http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=21917

Organised Crime
The bulk of the organised crime organisations of Nepal, which are mainly involved in illicit traffic in women and drugs, are controlled by Brahmins. The biggest gangsters, porno kings, betting parlor owners, pimps and dope pushers are all Brahminists, who control this industry which eats away at the very foundations of Mongol civilization. Occasionally, a figurehead is installed to fool the ignorant Mongoloids, but behind the scenes, the Big Brahmin pulls the strings. The entire prostitution industry of Nepal is in the hands of Brahmin criminals who engage in this highly lucratic traffic, selling helpless Mongol women to brothels all across India whilst the Brahmin-controlled police looks the other way. More than 25,000 such innocent women are serving in disreputable brothels in Bombay alone. The tentacles of related Brahmin mafias stretch all across India, and there are another inestimable tens of thousands of Nepali slave-women who have been trapped by the Brahmin Terror Network in other cities all across India. The high crime rate also leads to the raison-d'etre of the lucrative Brahmin-controlled law industry which provides employment for Brahmin judges, lawyers and law professors at universities.

xxx dude, sorry for your knowledge. Trafficking of woman is not done by the particular cast but some ill minded people are involved in this case and taking as a profession. If you go through the statistical data, most woman are mongol, thats true but mostly they are taken by their relatives. It is true that most trafficked gals are uneducated but history tells that gals from even high class family and highly educated are also being trafficked. So the problem is not created by certain cast but by lope hole of the law. Also nepali gals mostly trust their relatives. This is the next main reason tht our nepali sisters are being sold to the prostitution industry. This is shame of whole nepali ( male and female - female are also involed in this case). This problem is not created by certain cast but it is created by ( certain part of) culture, law and society.

Raayann, I think you are stating quite correctly "maanchhe pugi sakyo juunma (moonma)timi jasto haru ajhai aafno dhunma", but only lacking on you is to have deep insight analysis of the existing siituation of Nepalese societies. You know that is the reality ground of Nepalese development context. We might think about the silicon valley in Kathmandu, but when you reach out of certain hundreds KM out of valley or district headquarter, the matter to talk about going to moon is not relevant than the deep rooted noxious structure and feudal system. I don't argue with you, if you are familiar than me in rural development issues of Nepal.

We shouldn't ignore and shouldn't be afraid to discuss openly about the Caste System and existing deep roooted social complexcity. In any development agenda it should be an agenda, otherwise the opressed groups and the backwarded groups always remain back. I think the reality can be experienced in the remote villages, but not in Cities or nor in overseas.

The discourse of Caste System shouldn't be brought as who are good and who are bad, but in a constructive means and views so that every body can be benefited with the discussion. I suggest if you all like to keep this discussion hot, lets go the XXX original posting on "The Brahmin Stranglehold over Nepal". This thread so far is for the issues of our the professional women of Nepal.

I am really proud to hear that the Nepalese prostitute group could unite themselves and voice their need, which, so called the literate and so called "Thinktanks" of Nepal are afraid to discuss publically, at least not in favour of these women. Respect to those women's initiation, great!

I think xxx wants to bring up the issue of race because, either he/she is totally frustrated with the Brahmins or he/she is a racist. I think the issue of prostitution has nothing to do with Brahmins as a race but more to do with the actual criminals. You can?t put blame on a whole race an exclude criminals from other races. It is easy to point a finger at a race but let?s hear all the facts and names of the criminals. I am sure dalits are among the criminals too. And let?s not blame all for the crime of few. Yo ta yesto bhayo, kaam garne rame dosh paune shayme

Hi realitysucks, I don't find any racist issue with XXX posting. The prosittution problem in our country is not the result of Caste System, but it is social problem we donot exploit (leagalize) like Thailand, India and other Western countries.

I am repeating once again that it is not wise at all to mention that one group is more criminal than other or one is more powerful than other. These are cheap blames and puffing. It is not the intention of analysing the pros and cons of caste system in Nepal. We have to look the caste system in holistic approach than one or two incidence.

Khanal is the only person here who is even bothering to think.

It is very easy to blame everything on the caste system, and especially on the Brahmins since they are in many respects superior. It makes no sense to blame prostitution on the Brahmins since they uphold the highest moral values and have done so for over 6000 years. Any Brahmin who visits prostitutes has forsaken the privileges granted to him or her by the Almighty and does not deserve to be called a Brahmin. Such a person becomes an outcaste and a criminal, there is no doubt about this because this is what the Shastras have said.

This whole idea of some type of "openess" helping the situation is utterly misguided. By accepting prostitution, one only encourages it. Sometimes the best way to be compassionate is to take a fierce approach and here it is absolute neccesary that we completely cut down prostitution. Then only, will these people seek more wholesome and respectable jobs (hopefully with a pension plan). Those who say otherwise are narrow-minded and do not think of the future.

Mahabahun, prostitution is the world's oldest profession. So no one can uproot it. It will go only when the human race will become extinct.

Padequeen,

The same is true of murder, it has been present as long as the human race; by your logic, we should stop all efforts against murder because it will only go when the human race goes. Just as murder can be reduced with proper measures, so can prostitution. Just because every last person cannot be helped, it doesn't mean we should not help anyone at all. Please think more deeply next time.

Bahunbad again. what makes brahmins superior? and where did you get that they uphold the highest moral values? this is the very reason, this religion being forced into people's minds to drift them away from more important things in life, which is partly contributing to underdevelopment in the third world. if you look at the history of nepal, religion is very much politicized, and brahmins and shahs are to be blamed the most for keeping ppl misguided under the illusion of religion and orthodox rules.

When I say Brahmins are superior, I merely mean that they are generally higher in rank, station or authority. This is actually the primary meaning of the word "superior" (check a dictionary).

Without religion, there is no free wil. Understand that the scientific and non-religious views of the world (with a few exceptions) hold that our decisions are based on a perfectly predictable series of collisions and interactions between brain particles. According to this position, there is no free will. If you think that by subscribing to such a flawed and fatalistic worldview people will be better off, then I think most people will disagree with you. Also keep in mind that all so-called "secular" values are actually ones that come from religion. You can claim they are universal but they never existed prior to religion and generally don't exist for many generations outside of religion.

Religion has never been a problem for development, this is a myth perpetrated by Marxists and materialists. Most of the wealthier countries in the world are actually not secular. The only ones that are secular tend to be those without a long religious history like Nepal's.

Religion is very politicized but it can hardly be said that it is by the Brahmins (in Nepal). People claim to be against the caste system but they are invariably against Brahmins. Thats okay, we are taught to be tolerant but we also have to correct your misconceptions.

Most of the official religious ceremonies in Nepal are conducted by non-Brahmins, even the Hindu the ones. Nepali Brahmins have never been strict about this kind of matter. What you don't get is that the caste system is the oldest system that seperates church and state. In Nepal, this is the case and Brahmins basically had no real influence on government until the democracy came about (and it came about mostly because of Brahmins). In those ten years, there was more progress than in hundreds of years before it.

Its in fashion to blame the Brahmins for everything but in Nepal its actually the Newars that are far more rigid about this. For instance, only Sakyas and Bajracaryas can recieved anuttarayogatantra initiation. In Buddhist tantras it is said that in this age, these are basically the only teachings that are likely to lead to liberation. This means that in their religion only a elite few can reach liberation and so on. This aside from the fact that it is Buddhist doctrine that only Buddhists can attain liberation. And what have the Brahmins said? We have said that all true paths lead to liberation, it doesn't matter who you were born as, what religion, etc... This kind of openess exists nowhere else - it is a tradition of tolerance that has been misconstrued by fundamentalist secularists.
