Guys, I need to send an urgent document to Kathmandu. I tried FedEx , but they seem ridiculously expensive ($ 50 plus). Moreover they take a week. does any one know a rather inexpensive and faster alternative.? Plz let me know . Sorry to bother u guys with a personal question.

PS- I found that USPS has an express mail service which starts from around $20. have any one of u actually used it, plz let me know? I am a bit skeptical as it has to depend on nepali postal system once it reaches Nepal.

I had used USPS (Global Express) last year. It cost me $17 then -- the price could have gone up to $20 now. The document got to KTM GPO Box in 4 days. However, I was advised the USPS may not always be realiable in terms of getting the documents delivered in the days promised. I was one of the lucky ones, I suppose.

Inquire with DHL also. I THINK they may charge about $25.

I use FedEx, and it is a little more expensive than others. If you drop off your FedEx parcel in a FedEx box the price is about $35 (I'm recalling so it may be a little +-), be careful about weight, though. Find a dropoff location near you (usually in front of some post office). Do not forget to put the tel# to be called in Nepal. Within a week it reaches there, no problem, very reliable. Hope it helps!

For money, it'd be wire transfer using the swift number for the bank. A couple of days it takes. Western Union is very costly... use the bank you have a checking account with.

It charged me $35 (unlimited amount).. is it good?

use moneygram it cost $12 upto $1000.
$1000-$2500 --$19
$2500-$10000 --$29
They charge additional Rs200 for any amount. This is the best service to send money right now. They give exact bank rate which is around Rs0.50 more than thamel.com and other site. I just send it a week ago. go to http://www.moneygram.com/servlet/DefaultApplyXSL?xslURL=/Display/temgweb.xsl&URL=/Apps/AgentLocator/AgentSearch.jsp
to find out nearest agent.

Best way to send $$$ home, open new bank account. Get visa check card and activate it. Mail it to nepal by USPS express service with insured policy. Ask them to withdraw money with send check card. U will save a lot of money. U will have to pay $2 to Bank of America for using other bank than BOA and u have to pay about rs 500 to nepali bank per transaction. You have to open separate account for that purpose. Thats what i am doing with my 4 cuzins.

Try Canada Post

In fact in the recent test conducted by CTV journalists, A parcel sent using Canada Post from Edmunton, AB reached Toronto, ON faster and on time than rest of the big name private delivery services. Canada Post was faster than Purolater Canada, Fedex Canada and only equaled by UPS Canada.

Canada Post is a government owned corporation.
