All sajhatis,

I have been working for a company after I finished my undergraduate last December. I didn’t get selected in H1B lottery and my employer is not enrolled in the E-verify program. My employer gave me some option like going to one of their overseas facilities, work there for 12 months, and come back again in L-1 visa. But I am considering going to graduate school rather than taking that L-1 path.

I spent some time searching for graduate schools, but I found that most of the good graduate schools don’t take graduate admission in spring semester, and their deadline for fall semester is long gone. Currently, I am in Minnesota and I did my BS in electrical and computer engineering with 3.95+ CGPA. I an wondering if you guys can suggest me a good graduate school (electrical or computer or software engineering) that takes the admission for spring 2009 semester and offers some sort of assistantship or scholarship.

Thanks you guys n gals. Appreciate your help.

you better go to Oklahoma state university, stillwater, OK. Talk to professor directly and you will get admission quickly. This university is among top 75 in the US. As a matter of fact you will also get assistanship of $1000 per month with tuition fee waiver. I know couple of computer guys there.

well, with your GPA, you should try to give shot at top 20 schools.  with strong recommendations and good GRE, you should be able to get into one of those schools.  however, you are applying for spring semester, so i am not sure abotu those schools as most of such schools does nt consider or provide assistantship in spring semester.  the best idea is to go to usnews.com and do some research on schools.  good luck.

Syanjali, don't worry i won't be working off-campus illegally.

geda_gudi, thanks for your suggestion. Their deadline is June 1st, but I haven't taken my GRE yet.

techGuy, I don't think I will get admission there, but I was gonna try it anyway, but they don't take graduate admission in spring.

AAAA, thanks for your suggestion.

Guys, please suggest me if you know any good university which takes graduate admission for electrical/computer/software engineering in spring semester and provides some sort of assistantship/scholarship. Thanks all.

Most universities doesn't take admission for Spring and even they do, they hardly give TA/RA for Spring admission.
If you are a potential candidate and want TA/RA then Fall would be the best choice.
try asking in this forum. http://www.edulix.com/forum

Sumansuman, I contacted Purdue, and this is what they said..

“There is little to no funding available in spring.  Only in the form of a possible RA if a professor is looking to support someone.  No fellowships or TA's.”

I contacted few professors but they didn’t reply, so don’t know what to do. If you can help in anyway, I will really appreciate it.

Keystone,

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
does have spring intake option for graduate students. In case of you haven't written to any prof there, I would highly recommend you to do so. With your GPA, you should be able to make it through. Best of luck for GRE and grad school application.

Keystone,

I highly recommend you to write to the profs directly than writing to graduate admission office. It's the prof. who makes the final call. Rather than my familiarity to the profs, your correspondance to them matters more (I do know a few profs in the dept but I have no idea if they work in your area of interest). Be nice and impressive in your correspondance. Plz feel free to shoot me an email here in sajha if you want any more details. Good luck again !!

Thanks hyperthread for your suggestion. That's one of the last options I am considering. If possible I don't want to waste a semester.
