I am so damn sick and tired of goddamn illegal immigrants coming to America in droves like it's their goddamn god-given right. Furthermore, what ticks me off is that these goddamn Mexicans and other hispanic groups haven't even assimilated in this country. They keep speaking their native tongue, and refuse to learn English. They wave Mexican flags, and feel that certain American states(like California) always belonged to Mexico. I have a big problem with that sort of logic. Furthermore, 30% of criminals in jail are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. There is not a snowball's chance in hell that I will support illegal immigration of any sort, whether they be Nepalis or Mexicans. I myself did it the hard way. Let me say that it took me more than 15 years to get my hands on the highly coveted green card. 15 FUKING YEARS. You expect me to support illegal immigrants who just hop the borders or overstay their visas and refuse to do it the LEGAL WAY? No way am I supporting this sh1t. Plus the fact is that they steal jobs that belong to Americans. Millions of Americans are unemployed, and not all of them are lazy, as some people seem to imply. Corporations are complicit in this as well, and they are equally to blame. Erecting a wall is not enough. Sure, illegal immigration will subside to a degree for a while, butthey will surely find a different way. If they can't come by land, they will just swim or do it some other way(god know how). So the best bet is to use the Military to guard the borders.Things are so bad that in some American cities, it is hard to get a job unless you are fluent in Spanish. This country was founded on ANGLO-SAXON, JUDEO-CHRISTIAN ideals, and it should stay that way. I also have a huge problem with H1B visa holders(many Nepalis), who get pregnant here. These babies are anchor babies as far as I am concerned. These people are just using their children to stay here, and I cannot support something of that nature. Furthermore, the reason corporations hire these people is because they are CHEAP and work for less money. Studies have been done regarding this as well. Sure, they make more than illegal Mexicans, but they make less than Americans. This is another way corporations have managed to cut their expenses.
5.1% Americans of working age who are unemployed. More than 20 million Americans living in poverty. Billions of dollars down the tubes just to support illegal immigrants. Most illegal immigrants don't pay taxes, since they get paid under the table. They are a liability to America. Plus, who picks up the tab if they get sick? UNCLE SAM of course.

I don't wanna deal with illegal immigrants. I hope I don't come across one in real life(don't care if these illegals are Nepalis or not), coz I will report them for sure.

I don't care what anybody here says. I do not support illegal immigration. I do not support work visa(H1B or whatever it's called) as well. The first thing America needs to do is fix the 14th amendment loophole. Only children born of American citizens or green card holders should become American citizens. Being born on American soil should not automatically make you an American. That's just wrong. Children born of illegal immigrants or H1B visa holders should not automatically become Americans. This loophole has been abused way too many times. There is gonna be a huge demographic shift otherwise, and it ain't gonna be pretty. Little Mexicos, little cuba--these are some communities that are sprouting like wild mushrooms. Pack your bags and leave this country, illegals, you are a strain to America.

If your stance against illegal immigration is purely from the prespective of shielding American worker's and as you say "What do we do about America's poverty?" well, the illegals have a very small part to pay in that equation.

1. Stop the war in Iraq and other misguided military adventures: the billions of dollars being paid to Halliburton etc could easily go towards education, food stamps, Medicare/MediCal, welfare benefits etc. There would still be plenty left over to then start a concerted job re-education program for workers who are loosing their jobs to outsourcing.

2. Stop companies like WalMart, Tyson foods etc from paying workers a minimum wage without health benefits so that the American tax payer is not forced to subsidize the cost of healthcare for the working poor of America - this would mean having renewed legislation against lobbying and special interests in Congress. With a GOP controlled house, I doubt that will happen any time soon

3. Farm laburers, meat processing industry etc need to be forced to upgrade safety sytems. I stand by what I said earlier...these jobs are not going to be bo done by Americans/ African Americans and that's not a hypothesis but rather an acknowledged fact that is increasinly comming out in the mainstream media as a consequence of this immigration bill. Maybe having better pay, health benefits, security seystems will mean having more American workers apply for those jobs..

It's a systemic, institutional policy that needs changing. Knee jerk reactions of kick the illegals out is not going to solve a damn thing...it'll only add to the alredy balloning national defecit.

If I had a choice between far right wing conservative like Rep. Sensenbrenner or a seasoned veteran moderate like Sen. Arlen Specter to create a bill that is good for both forms of immigration, I would choose Specter closed eye day night without a pin of doubt. Why because people like Tancredo or Sensenbrenner and needless to say have forgotten that the fouding fathers of the very institution that they strongly believe, who created the American constitution, were immigrants and their American supremacy as where it is now, were founded by immigrants who came from all over the world.

They are doing jobs that American refuse to do. This is the point that needs to be taken in mind before bills like HR 4437 is created. People like Sensenbrenner who have heavily ignored the American middle class and have favored tax cuts for wealthy, needs to understand that before they give anything to the already rich folks, middle class is paying the burden of the sinking economy, paying for war, and they are the very ones who have been cut with programs like medicare and health care. This republican controlled congress have been run like, and I quote from Sen. Hillary Clinton, "plantation".

You cannot possibly oust all the illegal immigrants. HR 4437 is an inhumane and degrading way of treating people who have helped the very member of congress. At some point they have eaten food racked up by illegals, their houses have been built, and I wouldn't be surprise if the very State Capitol that they produce bills like HR 4437, were build by illegals. They are doing low paying jobs that have helped the US economy drastically. Tighten borders so nobody can enter, create walls, get undocumented people the path to citizenship. They are not getting this easy as has been quoted as being an "amnesty". It is not an amnesty. They have to earn their way like everybody else. Pay a 1000 dollar fine. Imagine 11 million people paying 1000 dollar fine. And thats not it, at every step they have struggles and hurdles to go through. At the end after 6 years, they have to go back and stay at the back of the line, so the folks who are already in line, donot get backed up. It will almost take more than 14 years as the creater of this thread has described to earn them the path to citizenship. This will only make US economy better.

Nepaali, agree with some of your points. However, even under the Clinton administration, the unemployment rate was at 5.1% in 1996. He didn't start any expensive wars like the Bush administration has. Plus, if Iraq becomes a success, it can in fact do something about the rising gas prices. It is a cause for concern. Of course the unemployment rate will never be zero percent, but the government can sure as hell strive to make sure that it is as low as it can be. Sure, the healthcare issue is one of the primary issues that America will need to address. Your healthcare solution sort of resembles the solution put forth by Thomas Friedman in his book about outsourcing. Furthermore, even though this may address the poverty issue in america a bit, it doesn't take into account the fact that American taxpayers pick up the tab for illegal immigrants as well. A steady stream of illegals, mostly poor, are coming to America from South of the border. They just exacerbate the poverty problem. You can't deny the fact that the reason they hire illegals in the first place is due to the fact that they work for less than minimum wage and don't demand healthcare benefits. So, it seems to me that even if healthcare alleviates the poverty problem to a degree(it is an important issue, but it just one of the various problems), poor people from South of the border keep on exacerbating the problem. I guess your solution would be to grant them amnesty. If you legalize illegals, they're not gonna work for less than minimum wage. Do you know what this means? More illegals will be needed to fill the void and the vicious cycle continues. Reagan granted amnesty in the 1980's and look what has happened now. The problem has only worsened. Furthermore, this guest worker program won't work because it doesn't grant amnesty. These people will fear deportation, and the bulk of them won't even sign up for guest worker status. This thing is bound for failure.
Illegals have a big part to play in the equation. Illegals are poor people, not rich folks. They make a lot less money than American workers. Furthermore, I stand by my view that they are taking jobs away from poor American workers. 5.1% unemployed Americans right now. I don't buy for one moment that Americans aren't willing to pick apples. My view is that Americans come first. Do something about America's unemployed first.
