Hi:
I am currently working for a finance company and my salary is in the mid 50s. Last week I got an email from a Recruiter for a English and Nepali Linguist position to work as a contractor in Iraq. They are paying 150,000 dollars for one year. And he tells me that I can terminate the contract anytime. It will take me three years to make what I can make at this contracting job in one year. Then in one year I can come back to the US, pay off my debts and maybe even invest in a house. I have talked with few friends about this and they all tell me that this money is not worth going to Iraq. I am so torn. I need your advice. What do you suggest I should do?
ps. I am a Nepali female and I do qualify for the position.

Anamika, After goin through ur discussion thread,I feel that u feel proud of urself.Thats pretty bad. Rememeber,Gazadi might have been emotional too while writing and made some mistakes. Its universal that human makes mistakes and english is not a native language for Gazadi and u too. So,be supportive for those kinds of things and don't post those comments judging others so inferior. There is no need to post the message Gazadi sent... can u post the message which u sent to Gazadi so that we can know the fact? And one thing,u r also a nepali.Lots of nepali work 12 hrs a day and 7 days a week for the sake of their family..Mostly those people are either aged people(around the age of ur father or uncle)or undergrad students striving hard for their good future. If u really think urself an educated and a sensible person, never ever discourage those people who are working so hard.It makes them feel really bad and they also have freaking human feelings as u.

Hey Anamika1 and others: I believe that USAID and US Embassy, who have recently co located at the New Embassy Compound in the Mahararajgunj area are seeking volunteers to go to Iraq for a year at one time. I believe quite a few Nepalis who work for USG in Nepal have already volunteered and there are at quite a few Nepalis working on behalf of the USG and its contractors in Iraq as we speak. I think that for some of the people posted in rural outposts in Kailali, Bardiya, Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan and a few other districts in the height of the Maoist insurgency in Nepal, it was as dangerous if you were working for the then "His Majesty's Government." My point being, if the money is good, then go for it. There are dangers in every aspect of our lives, be it at the Ronald Reagan Building in DC, or the New Embassy Compound in Kathmandu or inside the Green Zone in Bagdad!! San Rafael
