My proposal is about giving (and encouraging) Dalits freedom to discreetly or otherwise adopt any surname. If BathroomCoffee is worried about the contamination of the "heritage" of non-Dalit surnames with Dalits, there is a worse news for him. What he fears is already happening !

Between two consensus (2048-58 BS), nearly 1 million Dalits are missing and they are expected to have adopted non-Dalit surnames !!!!!

Here are the hard facts:

Increase in the total population (2048-58): 22.96 %
Dalit population in 2048: 31,26,522
Population of Dalits expected in 2058: 38,44, 371
Counted number of Dalits in 2058: 30,21,386
Missing numbers: 8,22,985

So from this projected data, some 8,22,985 Dalits are missing.

Your idea of allowing people to change last name is also one way we can try to eliminate the caste system. It is being practised in USA and other countires, so why not in Nepal. In fact, this is one of the tool created by so called Superficial High Caste to control others. Those who opposes are the one who fear about their inability to control others.

(he will have to learn manner of engaging in a decent discussion first to ever get any significance/value of him to me. I doubt he will ever do. It's been years his vulgarity remains unchanged. And so does my way of dealing with this class of posters- just ignore and let them know how immaterial they are !)

That said, on education as the way to teach the society to give dignity to Dalits, it certainly will help to some extent and so should be continued as a continuous effort.

However, there are certain things education alone is not going to get rid of, let's say, within next 100 years. And that is-- the deep stigma and dishonor attached to the lowermost caste.

The only way to destroy the stigma is to destroy the strict barrier and "heritage" of caste. And that's what my proposal is all about.
