Get a shock or surprise but Kathmandu is ranked third best city in Asia in 2006 by Travel+LeisureMagazine Florence tops the list of World’s Best Cities for a second time this year and is joined again by some lovely perennials—Rome, New York, and Sydney. But this year, Travel + Leisure readers prove that they’re also intrepid and curious, giving high marks to far-flung cities like Beirut and Kathmandu. 1 Bangkok 2 Chiang Mai, Thailand 3 Kathmandu 4 Kyoto 5 Hong Kong 6 Hanoi 7 Udaipur, India 8 Beijing 9 Jaipur, India 10 Luang Prabang, Laos To learn about the methodologies adopted for ranking click here These were the categories and characteristics: * For hotels: rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, value. Optional: for business, for families. * For destination spas: accommodations/ambience, treatments, service, food, value. * For hotel spas: ambience, treatments, service, value. * For cities: sights, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people, shopping, value. * For islands: natural attractions, activities/sights, restaurants/food, people, value. * For cruise lines: cabins, food, service, itineraries/destinations, activities, value. * For tour operators and safari outfitters: staff/guides, itineraries/destinations, activities, accommodations, food, value. * For airlines: cabin comfort, food, in-flight service, customer service, value. Perrybhadra, I know how Pulchowk was ranked 2nd, by the AIT... and it is a good thing. The point i was trying to make is that people interpret it differently. The reality is many students from other (probabaly better than pulchowk) do not prefer to go to AIT. So it does not give the complete story, does it?

Dimple - Didn't see your second post. But I hope my reply to your previous question gives you a sense of where my thoughts are as far as the timing goes. I don't claim to have all the answers but I am optimistic I can find the answers I need to know and come to my decision sooner rather than later. I dont want to say no to momos - who would - but unfortunately, I am barely local these days. Should we take this offline - perhaps we might be able to come to a decision that way rather than under the full glare of the public ...LOL!! SNDY - :)

Capt. saab i was just tempted to give you a reminder but i wasn't aware I was making you uncomfortable and that you were feeling the public glare sorry that wants me to present you with anti glare goggles!! that wasn't my intention!! So let me make myself clear to you that I wasn't trying to say i have made any significant contribution to my country but I was trying to say that our country needs us and we need to work hand in hand to save our country from drowning ki kaso?? Bedeah ma masti and Nepal ma aaram ko sapana is quite common I guess. Its just my thought as for me I am planning to pack up to go home soon.

Everyone wants to go home soon. But the soon ends up stretching a little longer than expected. Unless you have purchased the ticket, let's not make any announcements of leaving soon. Remember our friend Poonte who announced leaving for Nepal soon 2 years back? How soon is soon Dimple?

LOL @SNDY :) You have a rocking weeked! Dimple - My best wishes are with you. Do you know what you might be doing after you go back? From reading some of your posts, I sensed you have an interest in politics - any plans to take a step in that direction? Not that I need to say this, but allow me, as a virtual aquaintance and well wisher, to say don't let the doubters, well-meaning people as some of them may be, bother you. I actually commend you for following your own star and wish you the very best regardless of the whats and whens of your decision. Loote - My bud, I dunno what I'll do and when, but if I go back, I'll drop you a note before I leave :P And if you are ever around there, gimme a holler, and we can hang out - gorkhali style ! he he he :) Aiight, later folks.

And what actually are the qualifier for Kathmandu to be in the third best city in Asia? We don't have good airport, transportation, roads, water supply, electricity and so on... The list goes on... Simply fooling the people. Beside the site : travel and leisure is not official site or whatsoever for promotion. I wonder who is behind all these? :D

actually i was going through this site http://planetinternet.wordpress.com/2006/08/03/top-10-cities-asia/ and i found that kathmandu was not even in the top ten last year, that made me think how could Kathmandu make a huge leap to no 3 .. well no prizes for guessing though ... it has to be due to King Gyanendra giving way or more siginificantly Maoists ceasefire to join the political mainstream
