You can not check IP of every email being sent. If someone uses standard client like Outlook or Hotmail or Yahoo etc then it add client IP in the header of email so you can view the IP address if you view full header of email. And once you have IP, you can use any free website like http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp to get location from IP.

No, these days for the security reasons you can't check the original IP of the sender. All you can see is the IP of the mailserver the particular person is using. It is next to impossible to hide the server info which can be easily seen in the email headers. If you feel that the email is violating any law and which shouldn't be in your mailbox, you have to send the email+header to your email provider and they can decide what to do with it. Gone are the days when one could determine the IP of the sender by casually looking at X-Originating-IP tag in the header section.

Which email client or service do you use ?

It would be really nice if all email client stop sending IP address for security. Just seeing this thread I tried to send email from my yahoo email to hotmail email and vice versa. I can still see IP address there.

When you send email from Yahoo.com:
Received: from [xx.xxx.xxx.xxx] by web30208.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 10 Dec 2006 11:47:20 PST

When you send from hotmail:
X-Originating-IP: [xx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

where this xx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of sender's computer. To view this, you have enable advanced header option in hotmail and similar setting in yahoo or any email client...

seems like web based email clients still send originating IP address unless there is an option to not send originating IP.

Wow, yes apparently when somebody sends you email from Yahoo or Hotmail you can still see their IP. Gmail hides it though.

Amazing, if somebody sends you email from Hotmail/Yahoo, enable advanced header option in your email client as bkshres had mentioned and find either Received: from [xxx.xxx.xxx.xx] or X-Originating-IP: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xx] tags where xx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of the sender.

Then to track down that IP, use this url
http://whois.domaintools.com/xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
( ofcourse replacing xxx.xxx.xxx.xx with the real IP :)

another way of tracing the IP address(i.e. if you know the IP address and you want to know from where is it coming...like if its coming from China, or London, or Australia...
what you can do is open the dos command promt and type
tracert IPADDRESS
so lets say if the IPADDRESS is w.x.y.z, u can do something like
tracert w.x.y.z and it will tell u where does the sender's actually reside.

that will be helpful in tracking down spammers...or if somebody sends you a malicious email with a bogus email id...and u wanna track down who the f$$k was playing with you. It doesn't tell u complete details...but at least u have an inkling of where is it coming from...like california, or New York, or Florida

Sajha has HTML codes enabled. So you can type HTML codes in discussion and it works like a webpage.

To create a BOLD text, type < b > without the space in between, type your text, end the tag with < /b> without the space.

FOR colors.

Type < font color = " blue " > This text will appear in blue. Close the tags with
< / font >

so, if you remove space in tags, will appear

this is blue text.
