The daughter of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala ? who heads the Nepali Congress party ? told APTN on Friday that her 81-year-old father was under house arrest.

Decrying Gyanendra's power grab, she said the king now faces two forces: the Maoist rebels and the ousted politicians.

"I don't know how the king is going to survive," Sujata Koirala said.

A number of political leaders were meeting underground, trying to work out how they would oppose the king's actions, she said, calling on the international community to impose sanctions on Nepal and stop "giving aid to this dictatorial government."

I'm appalled at what Sujata Koirala said in this news that she's calling on the international community to impose sanctions on Nepal. What a bs way of protesting against King's move!

Does she even realize, to the slightest extent, the implication of calling on such sanctions for Nepal? Why should she or other politicians care - as they've amassed billions of rupees of public money for their personal security. The ultimate brunt of international sanctions will have to be borne by the general public. At a time when the Internation community is already contemplating on such move - we don't need no corrupt politician calling on them to impose sanctions on Nepal. This shows the politicians' utter disregard for the well-being of the general Nepalese people.

I'm not a supporter of the King's move. But I can't be more angry after reading this news - makes me think that the King did the right thing.

Yes I'm aware of that, and therefore angry at what she said to the media. The point is that the international community does not know about her corrupt political career and such announcements in the international media by politicians do grab immediate attention.

I can't help calling her a bitch ....I've heard rumours that she's bought an apartment in New York where her sons are living. A Nepalese politician buying an apartment in New York is just too much. How dare she call on sanctions? If any of you Sajha visitor is the son of Sujata Koirala - call your mom or whatever and tell her to stop making such statements to the international media. Instead give her suggestions on finding a better solution to protest the King's move.

I totally agree with you guys on this. I was so furious on her stupid and uncalculted comments on how to end this chaos. WOW!! what a brilliant idea of the stupidity!! No wonder why Nepal is moving in back. Isn't there any way to confiscate the property that even does not belong to this biyatchr? The above mentioned display of absurdity and utter disregard for the well being of the people of Nepal by this so-called leader of Nepali Congress is further evidence of their incompetence and treachery.

They will say anything to save their own behind, even jeoperdize the lives of their own citizens. Why would she make such a statement even when she knows that most of the foreign aid goes to the remote places and poorest of people (that is whatever is left over after they rob it for themselves).

How can we mourne the loss of such dispicable "leaders"? I, for one, am glad that they're gone.
