Why the fug are we using a indian Bikram sambat?? The whole problem in nepal started after the Shah kings. Do you remember in history books how peaceful kathmandu was before the shah's took over and looted the newar kings and now they have been looting all of Nepal and Nepalis.

Lets start new debate for using English calendar in nepal,it's very important now.Why are we still using Bikram Sambat in this 21st century?

vikram sambad was started by king virkrama ditye....if u have know the story....then the temple where he sacrified himself from the drought is near sali nadi way to chagunaryan. nepal was not peace before shah attacked the valley....the there malla sons of great king siddi malla was fighting with themself. Nepal as one caste and creed would be nice. I like your way of thinking.

The biggest problem in Nepal is the existence of this divide among people. The Shah kings have brainwashed the mass that they belong to higher class of human beings, and that they are superior to other ordinary nepalis.

The caste separation has created this group of select Kshetriya and brahmans who literally believe that they belong to a superior class of human beings.

Before you start jumping up and down, I do not mean all Kshetriyas and Brahmans are like that. There are some who feel that way and it is evident in their treatment of other fellow Nepali people. These are the people who are plundering the nation and killing any hope that the nation might have because these are the people who have held the power by suppressing other people and these are the people who still hold the powerful positions in Nepal.

In this 21st century, I hope you don't seriously believe that you are a superior human being just because you are born in a Kshetriya or Brahman family. If you do then, it's you and your type that is causing most of the problems in Nepal.

Again, I'm not blaming all the Kshetriyas and Brahmans. Only the ones who believe that they are SUPERIOR human beings than the rest of nepalis simply because they were born in a certain family.

It is nice to see so many replies to this thread. My main intention was to wish everybody a happy new year from my heart. I also wanted to start some discussion regarding Nepal sambat, why can't we use it as our calendar? And I have no racial intentions too. I am a BAHUN. I also don't think that NEPAL SAMBAT belongs to NEWARS only, but I am filled with heartfull thankness to them as they are the ones who saved NEPAL SAMBAT from extinction during harsh rules of mad and crazy kings and iron curtain of rana regime.
Sajha dwellers come from highly educated section (which may not be more than 10 percent, or even less) of Nepali population. If we don't discuss its pro and cons who else does? Lets first we discuss and then make our opinions.
Our nation is united in geography only. Nepal is still not united in people's heart, it consists of ethnic islands in people's heart. Accepting NEPAL SAMBAT as national can be one step to cultural unification of Nepal.
Yes there may be many difficulties to use it as official or government calendar. In my opinion, we can use western calendar for official works and NEPAL SAMBAT as cultural, just like Chinese do.
