I have seen people changing major from engineering to computer science or vice versa which are comparabale majors in some way and i have seen that works also. we can find a couple of technical major that share common ground with the biotech such as bioinformatics and computational biology. I have friends doing those thing also.
I was in the similar shoes once you are now-but lil different coz it was during my graduate school. I almost switched my major from one form of biology to another form of biology. I remember how my advisor suggested/ or warned me about switching the majors. While switching, you should make sure that you totally will enjoy the new major coz it's TOTALLY NEW. Interest is not the only thing. You have to talk with more of your close ones and if available, with the people who has gone through this kind of transformation.
